Introduction

StackUp is a sports skills app that allows you to practice essential skills and participate in skill challenge events for sports like basketball, baseball, archery and so much more.

Problem Statement: Sports skills events are tracked with spreadsheets and winners are announced at the event or days later. There is also no current way for a participant to practice at home and track their progress.

Objective: Design a mobile app for athletes to practice and participate in events in skills for a sport they are interested and for host to easily set up events, collect registration fees, record athletes’ skills, and easily post results.

Research & Insights

1. There is a standard set of skill practiced foreach sport.
2. Analyzed a skills event to see how event is run and how the record each skill.
3. Researched leaderboard strategies and how important it was for athlete to see how the stacked up against others in their age range.
4. Explored user preferences regarding interface design and feedback mechanisms.

Design Process

1. Moodboard: Provide options of how the brand tone and look can be and the pros and cons of doing each.
2. Brand Visual Design:
Create a logo, color palette, and basic style guide for the app that can also be used elsewhere.
3. Wireframing & Prototyping:
Developed wireframes to visualize app structure and iteratively prototyped key features for user testing.
4. Visual Design:
Created a clean and visually appealing interface with intuitive app, leveraging a style based on contrast to play into a hard athletic style.
5. Feature Development: Implemented core features like skills practice and event registration.
6. Testing & Optimization:
Conducted thorough testing and gathered feedback for continuous improvement.

Final Product

• Easy to practice skills
• Participate in local skills events
• Host  events and easily share to get more participants
• Gamified  Leaderboard Experience

Outcome: StackUp app takes the hard manual process of running a skills event and puts it into an easy to use interface plus it adds the additional functionality for athletes to practice the skills to be ready for their next event.

Conclusion: StackUp shows how UX design can enhance and make easy traditional methods for holding events and how technology if done right can make things easier but also add features that are needed.
